    Charred Shishito peppers are such a perfect healthy snack, especially on hot summer evenings, with a glass of chill drink to wash it down. It can be served in various different ways, and it's a treat you definitely don't want to miss.

    These sweet, tangy charred Shishito Peppers are perfect for party appetizers. You can add to your bruschetta, or top it to creamy risotto for the mild char taste or add to your summer salad.

    What are Shishito Peppers ?

    Shishito Peppers are these mildly sweet, tangy peppers popular in Japan. The peppers are wrinkle, looks super cute and are from the capsicum annuum family.

    Typically, these peppers are not at all spicy, but sometimes you might come across one out of twenty that will give you that heat kick. Especially when you bite around the stems.

    How to prepare Charred Shishito Peppers ?

    You can either prepare these in a cast iron pan on the stove top. Or use the grill.

    Just drizzle a little oil on the pan and then layer the peppers without crowding them. Give it 2 minutes, then turn around.

    Once done, sprinkle oil, lemon zest and enjoy right away with your choice of dipping sauce.

    How to pick the best peppers?

    Pick only the bright green ones that feel firm to touch. The yellow or orange ones are not fresh and will lose it's firm crunchy texture.

    What are the different ways to serve the peppers ?

    It's often used as a snack or appetizer to go with drinks.

    After charring, you can chop these peppers and then add to your summer salad.

    You can stuff the peppers with ricotta cheese and then dip in batter and fry.

    It will be great even on focaccia bread too.

    Ingredients
     

    • 16 oz shishito Peppers
    • 1 teaspoon oil
    • ½ teaspoon salt or more as per taste bud

    Instructions
     

    • Place a cast iron pan on medium high heat and drizzle the oil.
    • Layer the Shishito Peppers and let it blister all around.
    • Sprinkle salt and enjoy right away!
