    Easy Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix

December 1, 2020 by Kankana Saxena

    Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

December is all about being cozy and festive! And what better way than a cup of Hot Chocolate with marshmallow. This easy Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix is my favourite as it takes just 5 minutes to make. You will love it!

    Easy Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix

Yes, it is easy and it is homemade so you have the complete control over how much sugar you add to the mix.

You can also call it Hot Cocoa!

Most Hot chocolate mix I tastes from the store tastes extreamly sugary. Now I like mine less sugar. So making it homemade is the best option.

While I like to sometime stir chocolate in pot along with aromatic spices to make a gourmet Hot Chocolate. But most days I look for something quick and easy to whip.

Hot Chocolate Mix ( 5 minutes ) - Makes a perfect Holiday Edible Gift!

Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix makes a perfect addition to edible Holiday Gifts! You can add some marchmallow too in the bottle along with some chocolate chips or bar on the side.

    What you need

    • Good quality cocoa powder
    • Sugar
    • salt

    How to make

All you have to do is mix all the three ingredients and store in an airtight jar. How easy is that! Once done, you are good to go for the whole season.

    Flavored Hot Chocolate!

You can mix it with your choice of milk. Coconut milk or almond milk works fine too.  Flavor it up with cinnamon powder or nutmeg powder.

If you like spices, you can add some paprika cayene powder for a mild heat, or chai masala, or drued rose petals.

I like mine with vanilla, so I added homemade vanilla sugar in the mixture.

Have you tried Vanilla Sugar ?

    Vanilla sugar

It's just regular white granulated sugar that has a vanilla beans and pods. I just slit the vanilla bean, scrape the seeds out and mix it with the sugar. Then dip the slit beans too in the sugar.

If you never made vanilla sugar before, go ahead and give it a try. You will love it, not only in this drink but also in other sweet treats!

I always have a sugar jar with couple of split vanilla beans in it and once the sugar gets over, I just pour in more sugar in the jar. It smells heavenly!

Cocoa Powder in Hot Chocolate Mix

Here is a piece of health information for you that you might or might not know. Cocoa contains a large amount of antioxidants which is said to helps prevent cancer or any heart disease.

    I used Hershey's Cocoa Powder

Believe it on not, there was a time when hot chocolate was served as a medicinal drink. How cool is that huh!

    Good Quality Cocoa Powder!

To make it extra chocolaty, you can add some chocolate too when you are warming your milk along with the chocolate mix.

So, wait no more and give this extremely easy hot chocolate mix a try. It won’t create a intense rich drink but more of a light flavorful one and not overly sweet. No chocolate, less guilt!

Try the Chai Spiced Hot Chocolate

I for one am not on a cleanse, and it is freezing here. I would love to curl up on the couch with a good book and this hot chocolate.

Oh yeah...it looks so good. I've been making my own chocolate mix as well since it's way better than store bought. Those toasted marshmallows are perfect company for these hot chocolate!

Your pictures are gorgeous, as always. 🙂

I love the idea of vanilla sugar. Such a neat and simple idea. And that chocolate drink is so needed for the chilly nights we are having here. I can totally imagine myself with a cuppa under a rug on a couch with "Friends" re-runs on TV. Blisss! 😀

Having kids, I think I drink way more hot cocoa than I probably should. 😉 Next time I want to try your homemade version. So easy and I was going to make vanilla sugar anyway, so it's perfect. 🙂
