Fish Fry with Fried Rice

Something was wrong with my blog since morning πŸ™ It was giving weird error messages and it won’t let me get in… it’s my blog and I can’t enter … how rude can technology get??!! aaarrgghh!!! Anyways, let’s cheer up with some good news πŸ™‚ Guess what? My Egg Bowl dish was featured by Courtney from Not So Homemade, and I was awarded with the Stylish Blogger Award by Manu from Manu’s Menu…. YAY !!! super happy πŸ™‚ You guys should visit their blog.. they have super style with lots of variety. Thank you so much Courtney and Manu, you guys made my day!

Coming back to my Valentines Day treat, here comes my fish fry with fried rice, which was our main course. I am a huge fan of fish but Arvind prefers meat over fish. Coming from eastern part of India, I am more used to eating fresh water fish as compared sea fish. On the other hand, Arvind prefers sea fish minus the head, tail and skin, has to be only fillet and mostly, it should it fried πŸ™‚

As for the fried rice, my plan was to make a typical Chinese fried rice, but I realized that I didn’t have all the required ingredients. So, this is my version of fried rice with some colorful vegetables. It will work best if you use left over cooked rice from last night. The key point is to make sure the rice is cool before you toss it in the wok or else, it will become soggy.

I can’t make heart shape cookies or muffins or cakes.. so this is the best I could have done πŸ˜€ He loved it and was surprised to see the ‘heart on the plate’ .. love is in the air !!! πŸ˜‰

Devil Eggs

I am not much of a heart or a red rose type of girl. Having said this, I still enjoy to see the town go red on 14th of Feb πŸ™‚ Tonight, our plan was to dine out but then realized that most of the restaurants were packed and one thing I don’t like, is to wait for hours to get a seat… huh!!! I loose all my appetite while waiting. So, I decided to make some treat for my valentine, my sweetie pie, my love, my life πŸ™‚ We had devil eggs, pea pesto on tiny tortilla chips, fish fry with Chinese fried rice and lemon coconut muffin and of course, some Pinot Noir. I will share all of these recipes one by one and I am starting with our favorite, Devil Eggs.

As per Wikipedia, the term “deviled” in reference to food is used most often with spicy or zesty food. In some parts of the Southern and Midwestern US, the terms “salad eggs” or “dressed eggs” is used, particularly when the dish is served in connection with a church function – presumably to avoid dignifying the word “deviled”.

Spinach Omelette

Today was yet another day when I woke up hungry! No, I didn’t miss my meal last night. In fact, we had this amazing chicken tandoori from a Pakistani Restaurant. I and my tummy slept all happy πŸ˜‰ May be too much of blog hopping does something to your subconsciousness and you land up dreaming of food and eating .. huh!!

I was craving for Egg Bowl once again but then, I wanted to try something different and thought of making something on the similar lines. Made a Spinach Omelette πŸ™‚ Spinach is one of my favorite greens just like Popeye πŸ˜› .. “I’m Popeye the Sailor Man. I’m strong to the finish, Cause I eats me spinach. I’m Popeye the Sailor Man” .. do you guys remember that. I miss that show at times!

Crème Brûlée

If you know me, you will know that I don’t like to cook on Friday nights. I love to cook, and I cook every single day including weekends, but Friday evening does some freaky things to me. I like to be lazy, order food, have a drink and not cook at all. May be it’s the feeling of ‘weekend almost there!’ πŸ˜‰ . Yesterday was different! I was getting bored while waiting for Arvind to come home. He had some office party to attend and so I thought of surprising him by baking some cookies. Guess what ? it turned out bad πŸ™ It was the first time I was making an attempt with cookies!!

Totally mad at myself, I decided to watch a movie. Switched on Netflix and picked ‘Ramen Girl’. If you guys haven’t watched it .. you should, especially if you love food and cooking. It’s not a super hit kinda movie, but it can motivate you. Well, it worked on me. I went to the kitchen and decided to make Creme Brulee πŸ˜€ This is how crazy I am!! And yes, this is yet another dessert which I order every time I see it in the menu but have never ever made it at home.

I made a tiny portion, 3 to be precise, 1 for me, 1 for him and 1 for me .. well, I was all alone on a Friday evening ..I deserve 2 .. don’t I ? πŸ˜› πŸ˜‰

Chana Chola

I was once asked by one of my colleague – ‘What is a typical Indian Cuisine?’. Well, that’s the fun part of Indian Cuisine, there is no such typical dish. Every single region has a variety of it’s own, different language, different culture, different dressing style, different custom and different food habits.

The language we speak at home is Bengali, which is from east of India. But I was born in Shillong and finished my college from there, which is in North East of India and the language they speak is called Khasi. I spent close to 10 years of my life in Bangalore which is in South of India and the common language that is spoken there is Kannada. I married someone who is from North of India and they speak Hindi, which is also the national language of India. How many languages can I speak ? Hindi, Bengali and English πŸ˜€

Talking of food now, Chole is mainly eaten in North on India with fried bread called Bhatura. It’s one of my favorite north Indian Vegetarian dish and I can eat it back to back for several days without getting bored. Now, making Bhature is little tough and you really need a very huge wok to prepare that. So, I substitute that with Poori which is kind of similar to Bhatura except that they are petite like me :P. I will share the recipe for Poori some other day. As for today let’s look at Chole.
